UBOD  is a popular ingredient in Filipino cuisine known for its tender texture and mild flavor. Here are a couple of delicious ways to prepare ubod:

Cooking Methods:

  1. Lumpiang Ubod:

    • Ingredients: Hearts of palm, pork, shrimp, carrots, garlic, onions, lettuce, and homemade crepe wrappers.
    • Method: Sauté garlic and onions, then add pork and shrimp. Mix in julienned carrots and hearts of palm. Wrap the mixture in crepe wrappers with a lettuce leaf, and serve with a sweet, garlicky peanut sauce.
  2. Ensaladang Ubod (Hearts of Palm Salad):

    • Ingredients: Hearts of palm, tomatoes, shallots, coconut cream, calamansi juice (or lime juice), vinegar, fish sauce, and chiles.
    • Method: Toss hearts of palm with tomatoes, shallots, and chiles. Dress with coconut cream, calamansi juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Serve on lettuce leaves and garnish with scallions, fried garlic, and fried shallots.

Storage Tips:

  • Refrigeration: Store fresh ubod in the refrigerator if you plan to use it within a few days. Keep it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap.
  • Freezing: For longer storage, blanch the ubod briefly in boiling water, then freeze it. Place it in a freezer-safe bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. It can be stored in the freezer for up to three months.
